With reference to your Letter of the 9th ultimo, I am directed by Lord Panmure to acquaint you, for the information of Lord John Russell, that the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury will be prepared on being furnished with a properly certified account of the expenditure incurred by the Governor of Vancouvers Island in chartering the Ship "Otter"asManuscript image as a Guardship for the protection of the settlement, to pay the amount to such person as may be duly authorised to receive it.

I should doubt the Hudson's Bay Company being able to send a certified account of this expenditure: but the time consumed in a reference to VanC. I. is so long that perhaps we had better ask the Co if they have the necessary information. If they should not possess it then write to the Governor.
