I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Merivale's letter of the 25th Instant, stating that the substance of my letter to you dated 14th July would be communicated to Governor Douglas, accompanied by a recommendation that some moderate impost be levied to assist in defraying the expenses of the Government of Vancouver's Island; and I beg to convey the thanks of the Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company for this communication.
