Company I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
Mr
Fortescue's letter of the 21
st Instant, transmitting an Extract of a
Despatch from the Governor of
Vancouver's Island in reference to the
Salary to be received by the Chief Justice,
Mr Cameron, for his
services in that Settlement.
The Governor and Committee instruct me to state, in reply to the
observations of
Mr Secretary Labouchere, that they were not aware of
Governor Douglas's intention to make the application in question, having
received no advice from him upon the subject, and that they will
communicate
with
with him in reference thereto by an early opportunity.
