Douglas writes to Newcastle to to forward an “Address” of condolence to the Queen, for the death of Prince Albert, “on behalf of the Bishop and Clergy of the United Church of England and Ireland
in Vancouvers Island and British Columbia.”
The minutes ask to acknowledge Douglas's despatch and to “State that Her Majesty has derived much satisfaction from their
Loyal sympathy.”
The files includes four documents. The first is a letter from Wright to Newcastle, which forwards to the Queen an “address of the Bishop and Clergy of the diocese of British Columbia;” the next two are the addresses, one a is copy, of sympathy to the Queen; the fourth is a draft reply from Newcastle to Douglas, which acknowledges receipt of Douglas's despatch and enclosed address, and asks to convey to “the authour” that it has
been laid before the Queen.
