Sir,
With reference to my letter of the 12th ultimo, I am directed by
Earl Russell to transmit to you, for the information of the Duke of
Newcastle, copies of a further despatch and its inclosures from Lord
Lyons relative to the rumour that a privateer for the use of the
so-styled Confederate States was beingfitted

1863, commenting at length on various reports received from the
colony in response to his enquiries, all refuting the claim that
privateers were being fitted out in Vancouver Island.
