No. 110
I have the honor to inform you that consequent upon the resignation
of
Mr J.D. Pemberton, Surveyor General, and the appointment of M
r
B.W. Pearse as his acting successor, I have selected M
r J.T. Tidwell
to perform the duties of Assistant Surveyor in the room of M
r
Pearse.
Mr Pidwell is an active intelligent Colonist, fully competent to
perform the duties assigned to him.
He
He has hitherto given much of his time gratuitously to the public
service and is irreproachable in private character.
I have to solicit your approval of this temporary arrangement.
I have the honor to be,
Sir
Your most obedient Servant,
A.E. Kennedy
Governor
Minutes by CO staff
I know nothing of the capabilities of either of the
nominees; & I
suppose that the Governor must be the best judge of their
qualifications.
The Surveyor General has £500 per ann. The Assistant £350.
I have addressed a paragraph in a draft already prepared, which will
dispose of this despatch.
