Palmer and Collier to Cardwell
Lincolns Inn
October 24th 1864
Sir,
We are honoured with your commands signified in
Sir Frederic Rogers'
letter of the
5th Instant, stating, that he was directed by you to
transmit to us the copy enclosed of a Despatch from the Governor of
Vancouver Island, accompanied by an Act passed by the Legislature of
Vancouver Island, (to which the Governor has reserved his Assent)
entitled "An Act respecting Barristers and Attorneys at Law."
Sir Frederic Rogers was
also also pleased to state that he was directed by
you likewise to enclose a copy of the observations of the local
Attorney General upon the Act, and to request, that we would take
these papers into our consideration, and favour you with our opinion,
whether this Act may properly receive Her Majesty's Confirmation.
Sir Frederic Rogers was also pleased to state, that he enclosed
copies of part of a correspondence, which, probably, gave occasion to
the passing of this Law.
In obedience to your commands, we have taken these papers into our
consideration, and have the honour to
Report
That we are
of of opinion, that there is no sufficient objection to
this Act, to call for the withholding of Her Majesty's sanction
therefrom.
