Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch marked Separate of the 23rd of April enclosing a Memorial addressed to you by certain British Subjects complaining of their arrest and detention at San Francisco by the Authorities at that place.

I have to acquaint you that Her Majesty's Government having considered the circumstances of this case do not think it desirable to interfere.
