Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatches Nos. 28 and 29 of the 4th of June, and in conveying to you my approval of the appointment of Mr. Henry Wakeford to discharge the duties of Colonial Secretary during Mr. Young's absence,IManuscript image I have to acquaint you that I consider that Mr. Wakeford may continue to draw his half Salary from Western Australia, notwithstanding his acceptance on half salary of the acting appointment of Colonial Secretary of Vancouver Island.
Mr. Wakeford must of course understandthatManuscript image that this temporary employment does not give him any claim to succeed to any Office in the appointment of the Secretary of State.
