With reference to your Despatch No. 71 of the 6th Ultimo, I have the honor to request that you will inform Mr. D. B. Ring that I have received his letter of the 30th of August relative to the appointment of Attorney General of Vancouver I, together with the original documents by which it was accompanied and whichManuscript image I now return.
You will state to Mr. Ring that I consider it the duty of the governor, in appointing to a vacant Public Office, to make the selection which he conscientiously believes to be best for the public Service, and that as I feel no doubt that you pursued that course on the present occasion, I have found no reason toManuscript image interfere with your discretion.
