Sir,
With reference to my despatch No. 31 of the 19th ultimo, apprizing you of the appointment of Mr. Joseph Needham to the Chief Justiceship of Vancouver Island, I have the honour to inform you that I have authorized the Crown Agents to make an advance equal to two months' salary at the full rate ofOneManuscript image One thousand two hundred pounds per annum to Mr. Needham in this Country to meet the expenses of his outfit and passage.
But in settling Mr. Needham's future pay account, he will of course only be credited for half salary during his outward passage, in accordance with the established Colonial Regulations.
