Referring to my Despatch N
o 29 by this Mail in which I acknowledge
the latest Despatches received from you, I have the honor to report
that a telegram from
San Francisco was received here this morning by
the agents of the Hudson's Bay Company announcing the total loss of
this
their steamer "
Labouchere" off
Cape Reyes on her way from
San Francisco to
Victoria.
This vessel having been subsidized by the Government of this Colony
for the conveyance of Mails between
San Francisco and
Victoria—I
have addressed a letter, of which I enclose a copy, to Her Majesty's
Consul at the former place requesting him in the event of the English
Mail viâ the West Indies of
2nd March 1866 having been on board
the
the "
Labouchere" and lost, to inform you of the fact by telegraph.
