Broughton Strait runs between the shores of northeast Vancouver Island and Malcolm Island. A cluster of geograpic features near the Strait—including Broughton Archipelago,
Broughton Island, and more—are named after Lieutenant William Robert Broughton (1762-1821), who commanded one of Vancouver's smaller exploration vessels, the Chatham, on a visit to the area in 1791.1
