acquainting me that Her Majesty's Ships <name ref="vsl:tribune" type="vessel">Tribune</name>, <name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Pylades</name>, and
<name ref="vsl:amethyst" type="vessel">Amethyst</name>,
<note xml:id="B01006" n="B5801006"> <hi rend="citation"><name ref="vsl:tribune" type="vessel">Tribune</name>, <name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Pylades</name>, and <name ref="vsl:amethyst" type="vessel">Amethyst</name>,</hi>
The H.M.S. <name ref="vsl:tribune" type="vessel">Tribune</name>, a 31-gun screw-frigate, acquired by the
Royal Navy in <date when="1853">1853</date> and ordered to the China Station in <date when="1857">1857</date>. It arrived
in <placeName ref="plc:esquimalt">Esquimalt</placeName> on <date when="1859-02-13">13 February 1859</date>, after stopping at Nagasaki en route,
and operated in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>n waters until <date when="1860-01">January 1860</date> and again
from <date from="1864" to="1866">1864-66</date>.
The H.M.S. <name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Pylades</name>, a wooden screw corvette, 21 guns, left
Singapore on <date when="1858-12-05">5 December 1858</date>, and arrived in <placeName ref="plc:esquimalt">Esquimalt</placeName> on <date when="1859-02-14">14 February
1859</date>, remaining in BC waters until <date when="1859-02-14">14 December 1859</date>, and returning again
from <date from="1868" to="1871">1868 to 1871</date>. <persName ref="prs:decourcy">Captain Michael De Courcy</persName> was senior officer on the
<name ref="vsl:pylades" type="vessel">Pylades</name> in <date when="1858">1858</date>. The H.M.S. <name ref="vsl:amethyst" type="vessel">Amethyst</name>, a 6th rate, first class
sailing frigate, 26 guns, left Hong Kong on <date when="1858-10-11">11 October</date> but had to return
to have its bowsprit replaced. It left again on <date when="1858-11-22">22 November</date>, reached
<placeName ref="plc:valparaiso">Valparaiso</placeName> in <date when="1859-03">March 1859</date>, and was ordered home the following year.

from the <placeName ref="plc:caribbean">East Indies</placeName> to <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver's Island</placeName>, and that the former
Ship would convey<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">as</fw><pb facs="co_60_01/co_60_01_00338v.jpg"/> as many Supernumerary Marines as she can carry
and as <persName ref="prs:seymour_m">Rear Admiral Sir Michael Seymour</persName> can spare, and I beg to
offer you my thanks for this very satisfactory
information.
