<p>Enclosed is a draft from <persName ref="prs:elliot_tf">Elliot</persName> to the Under-Secretary for War requesting the date that <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Moody</persName> and his men ceased to receive pay from the War Department; and a draft from <persName ref="prs:lytton_egeb">Lytton</persName> to <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> asking him to inform <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Moody</persName> of his payment schedule.</p>

I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her
Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of
<persName ref="prs:lytton_egeb">Sir E.B. Lytton</persName>, that My Lords will not object to the issue,
quarterly, of <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName>'s Civil and Military pay, as
Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, to
his Agents Mess<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> <orgName ref="org:cox_co">Cox &amp; C<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi></orgName>, but They consider that
that Officer should transmit periodically to the Secretary of
State the usual Certificate of his Existence, required in similar cases.

An advance of 120 days pay has already been<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">made</fw><pb facs="co_60_02/co_60_02_00285v.jpg"/> made to
<persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName> and other officers of this Expedition, which
pay Their Lordships presume will commence from the date
when They ceased to receive pay from the War Department,
as sanctioned by the letter of this Board of the <date when="1858-10-07">7<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi>
