Trevelyan informs the Colonial Office that the Treasury does not object to Gosset’s request for a skeleton gear of a water wheel, the machinery of a circular mill and a lithographic press as long as the cost does not exceed £200.

The minutes inform the Agent General of British Columbia.

Enclosed is a draft from Elliot to Barnard forwarding a copy of Gosset’s letter and instructing him to procure and transmit the articles requested.

With reference to your letter of the 9th Inst; Inst; = skeleton gear, litho press. A draft of this letter appears in Gosset to Under-Secretary of State, 26 October 1858, 10965, CO/3, p. 120. enclosing a letter from Capt Gosset, the Colonial Treasurer of British Columbia, requesting that a Skeleton Gear of a powerful water wheel and the Machinery of a circular Mill, and also a Lithographic press may be sent out to him, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of Sir E.B. Lytton, that My Lords will not object to these Articles being supplied for the service of the Expedition to British Columbia, provided that the Cost does not exceed £200, and on theunderstanding understanding that the amount will be repaid from Colonial funds.
