Moody informs the CO that the War Department wants him to defray the cost of Forage (Oats & a small quantity of Hay). He requests that the Treasury be moved to make the payment.

The minutes resign that there is no help for it. They recommend that the Treasury make the payment as usual.

Enclosed is Elliot to the Treasury forwarding a copy of Moody’s letter and asking that the payment be sanctioned.

I have the honor to state it has been desirable by the War DtDepartment that the purchase of Forage (Oats & a small quantity of Hay) obtained for B. Columbia by Mr Eaton H.M. Storekeeper Tower should be defrayed by me instead of paying through their Accounts as the other Stores will be. I did not contemplate this when I made my last demand.

I think it would facilitate matters if you would sanction the above and move H.M. Treasury to place the sums required—viz George Kean for Oats 174. 8. 3 S.H. Whitboard for Hay 8.14.10 183. 3. 1 to my to my acct at Messrs Cox & Co.

May I request your decision to be sent under cover to Captain Elphinstone R.E. 4 New Street Spring Gardens.
