Rowlandson informs Stanley that the rumours of abundant gold in New Caledonia appear to be true. Rowlandson believes that the richness of the region will exceed in that respect anything heretofore known.

The news by the last mail from FrazerFraser River, fully confirms the previous rumours respecting the extraordinary richness of New Caledonia as a gold region, from private and pretty accurate sources. I may observe that I am tempted to believe that it will exceed in that respect anything heretofore known
