I directed your attention
to the treatment of <name type="ip" subtype="group">the Native Indians in the Country</name> which it has so
<index><term>Indians</term><index><term>policy recommended</term></index></index>
recently been decided to establish as a British Colony. I regard that
subject as one which<pb facs="rg7_g8c_06/rg7_g8c_06_00061v.jpg"/> demands your prompt and careful consideration. I
now transmit to you the Copy of a letter from the Aborigines Protection
<index><term><orgName ref="org:aborigines_society">Aborigines Protection Society</orgName></term><index><term>letter from</term></index></index>
<index><term>Indians</term><index><term>policy of <orgName ref="org:aborigines_society">Aborigines Protection Society</orgName></term></index></index>
 invoking the protection of Her Majesty's Government on behalf of
these people. I readily repeat my earnest injunctions to you to
endeavour<!--<pb facs="co_398_01/co_398_01_00034r.jpg"/>--> to secure this object. At the same time I beg you to observe
that I must not be understood as adopting the views of the Society as<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">to</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_06/rg7_g8c_06_00062r.jpg"/> to
the means by which this may be best accomplished.
