I have duly received Your Despatch No 40 of the <date when="1859-04-01">1<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">st</hi> April</date>,
enclosing the Copy of a note from the <persName ref="prs:malakoff">Duc de Malakoff</persName> to <persName ref="prs:malmesbury">Lord
Malmesbury</persName> requesting <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">information</fw><pb facs="co_60_04/co_60_04_00542v.jpg"/>information as to the fate of a French subject
named <persName ref="prs:massenot_jb">Jean Baptiste Massenot</persName> supposed to have arrived at <placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName>
in <date when="1859-06">June last</date>, and I have the honor to acquaint you in reference
thereto, that we have used every exertion to obtain the information
desired.

2. I beg herewith to enclose the Copy of a letter, I have just
