Hamilton advises that the Treasury has directed the Paymaster General to transfer from the Parliamentary Grant for British Columbia to the account of Army Services the sum of…£12.143.4.0, for War Department stores, adding that several of these Stores are stated to have been authorized by Colonel Moody.

I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury your letter of the 17th June last transmitting accounts of the stores supplied by the War Department for the use of the Royal Engineers in British Columbia and I am instructed to acquaint you for the information of the Duke of Newcastle that they have given directions to the Paymaster General to transfer from the Parliamentary Grant for British Columbia to the account of Army Services the sum of twelve thousand one hundred and forty three pounds and four shillings (£12.143.4.0) in repayment of the value of those Stores.

Their Lordships observe that several of these Stores are stated to have been purchased by Colonel Moody. They presume that that Officer was duly authorized to purchase the same, and that they are distinct from those in respect to which the sums of £3000 and £3,400 were issued to him as requested by your letters of 24 September and 26 October last.

Mr Merivale Acquaint the War Department of this payment, adding that it is presumed that the account of £12,143 does not include any of the stores referred to by the Treasury as having been already paid for to Colonel Moody.

It is improbable that that is the case as the War Department was cautioned on this point in our letter of 15 January asking for their account.
