I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 25 of the
<date when="1859-02-10">10<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of February last</date> enclosing copies of a correspondence between
<persName ref="prs:cridge">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Cridge</persName>, the District Minister of <placeName ref="plc:victoria">Victoria</placeName>, and <persName ref="prs:duncan_w">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Duncan</persName>,
relative to the formation of <name type="ip" subtype="group">a settlement for Indian Converts</name> to
Christianity, and in order to carry this plan into effect you propose to
reserve several hundred <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">acres</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_09/rg7_g8c_09_00143v.jpg"/>acres of land in the neighbourhood of <placeName ref="plc:lax_kwalaams">Fort Simpson</placeName>.
</p>
<p>
Subject to the stipulations which you suggest, namely that the land
should be conveyed to the Governor of the Colony for the time being in
trust for the use and benefit of <name type="ip" subtype="group">the Indians</name>, leaving them no power to
alienate or dispose of it, I have to authorize you to take the necessary
steps
