With reference to the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName>'s despatch No. 37 of the
<date when="1860-07-02">2<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">nd</hi> of July last</date>, respecting the grant of extra pay to the Royal
Marines while serving in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, I transmit for your
information the
copy of a letter from the <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> enclosing a despatch from <persName ref="prs:baynes_rl">Rear Admiral Sir R. Baynes</persName> on the subject, together with a copy of the answer
which the <fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">Secretary</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_09/rg7_g8c_09_00220v.jpg"/>Secretary of State has returned to the Lords Commissioners,
and I am desired to authorize you in accordance with the opinion
expressed in this correspondence to issue to the party of Royal Marines
the rate of Colonial pay which had been promised to them previously to
the
receipt of the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName>'s despatch above referred to.
