which severely criticized several proclamations <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> had forwarded for approval. <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> thanks
<persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName> for the <q>the great trouble you have taken in addressing me upon this subject,</q> and promises to make changes
to the laws as instructed.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of Your Grace's
Despatch N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 79 of the <date when="1861-05-15">15<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> May</date> last, in which Your Grace has entered into a review of four Proclamations transmitted
with my Despatch N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 11 of the <date when="1861-02-06">6<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> February 1861</date>.
</p>
<p>
2. I beg to tender my apologies for the delay which<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">occurred</fw><pb facs="co_60_10/co_60_10_00345v.jpg"/> occurred
in forwarding those Proclamations, and I cannot but admit the
full force of your Grace's strictures on the loose manner in
which they appear to have been drawn. I have forwarded a copy
of your Despatch for the information of the Attorney General,
and I will take care that the alterations suggested are attended
to, and that the publication of Her Majesty's disallowance of
the Act to facilitate the trial of Criminals, be made without delay.
