<persName ref="prs:newcastle">Newcastle</persName> informs <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> that he has instructed the <q><orgName ref="org:ocac">Colonial Agents</orgName></q> to send
the items requested in despatch no. 98 dated <date when="1860-11-29">29 November 1860</date>, <q>with the exception of the supply of Coke.</q> He includes an estimate of the
cost for the items provided by the <orgName ref="org:ocac">agents</orgName>, informs <persName ref="prs:douglas_j">Douglas</persName> that the <orgName ref="org:treasury">Treasury</orgName> will
advance <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> the funds required to pay for the goods, and tells him that <q>on all future occasions on which it
may be desirable to obtain stores for the service of your Government from this country, you will remit to the <orgName ref="org:ocac">Agents General</orgName> the funds
requisite for meeting the expenditure.</q>

I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 98 dated the
<date when="1860-11-29">29<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of November</date> last enclosing a list of Articles required for the
<orgName ref="org:assay_office">Assay Office</orgName> in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> which the Colonial Treasurer requests may be procured and sent out from<!--<pb facs="co_398_01/co_398_01_00235v.jpg"/>--> this Country.

<p>
I have instructed the Colonial Agents to comply with this
Requisition, with the exception of the supply of Coke, at the estimated
cost specified in the letter of which I enclose a copy.
</p>
<p>
In the present instance I have requested the Lords Commissioners of
<orgName ref="org:treasury">the Treasury</orgName> to defray the cost of these Articles, as an advance to be
repaid from Colonial funds, but on all future occasions on which it may
be desirable to obtain stores for the service of your Government from<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">this</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_09/rg7_g8c_09_00263r.jpg"/>
this country, you will remit to the Agents General the funds requisite
for meeting the expenditure, unless you should have previously sent to
them, which would be preferable, some general remittance sufficient to
meet all current demands of this kind.
