I have the honor to transmit herewith a list of articles required by the Assay Department, and to request that your Grace will be good enough to give instructions for the same to be purchased by the Agents General and sent out by the first ship.

2. It is particularly requested that the articles on the list marked A may be purchased from Messrs Johnson and Matthey of 79 Hatton Gardens, and those marked B from Mr Claudet of 6 Cannon Street City.

Mr Jadis The Assay Department is I believe under the Treasury. Are its expenses defrayed by the Treasury or by the Colony?

If the latter, I think that the first step should be to ask the Agents to report the probable expense of complying with the present requisition.
