With reference to your letter of the 14 Inst. transmitting copy of a letter from the Admiralty together with a Statement of Freight charged by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company for conveyance of the Baggage of Officers and Men of the Royal Engineers proceeding to British Columbia in 1858, I am directed by the Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the Dukeof of Newcastle, that My Lords will be prepared to transfer the amount due for the service in question to Naval Funds upon receiving an application from the Board of Admiralty for the same.
