that the colony's loan will be completely financed by the <orgName ref="org:bank_bc">Bank of British Columbia</orgName>, leaving no opportunities for private investors.

<persName ref="prs:young_a">Lady Maitland</persName> presents her respectful compliments and having
received instructions from her Husband <persName ref="prs:maitland">R. Admiral Sir Thomas
Maitland</persName>, Commander-in-Chief in the Pacific to invest money in
"<placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>" Colonial Government Stock, which the Admiral had
reasons to suppose would be issued early in<pb facs="co_60_14/co_60_14_00459v.jpg"/> <date when="1862-11">November</date>, and <persName ref="prs:young_a">Lady
Maitland</persName> not being able to ascertain whether or not authority has
already emanated from the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> would feel extremely
obliged to be informed if she may make application for the said
Stock, and to tender every suitable apology if she has committed
any irregularity by this application.
