<placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>. <persName ref="prs:fortescue">Fortescue</persName> sends <persName ref="prs:nind">Nind</persName> a reply
informing him that all his paid leave has been used, and any further leave granted will be without pay.

I have the honour to inform your Grace that having been under
medical treatment for a nervous disorder since I arrived in
England from <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> in <date when="1862-03">March</date><fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">and</fw><pb facs="co_60_14/co_60_14_00471v.jpg"/> and that any recovery being
still postponed, I am recommended to apply for an extension of
leave until the spring of next year by my medical adviser <persName ref="prs:gull">D<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Gull</persName> from whom I enclose an opinion.

Feeling that under the circumstances a complete restoration to
health is essential to the proper fulfilment of my duties in
<placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">British</fw><pb facs="co_60_14/co_60_14_00472r.jpg"/> Columbia</placeName>, I trust your Grace will not deem it inexpedient
to increase the length of my furlough to the time recommended. My
address for the next fortnight will be 8 Guildford Street, Russell
Square.

<persName ref="prs:nind">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Nind</persName> has served 18 months in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, and 9
months in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Van C. Island</placeName>. As this leave has been granted to <persName ref="prs:nind">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi>
Nind</persName> on acc<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> of his service &amp; his Office in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">B. Columbia</placeName> I
observe that according to the 115 section of the Colonial
Regulations his full amount of leave has been granted. If his
present application is complied with his absence <choice><abbr>w<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>would</expan></choice> exceed by
six months 1/6<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> of his residence in the Colony. Leave can, of
course, be allowed him, but with<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> 1/2 salary.
