<p>
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No.
72 of the <date when="1862-11-23">23rd of November</date>, in which you request that the coin sent out
to <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> from this Country in the year <date when="1860">1860</date> may not be
reckoned as part of the Parliamentary Grant in aid of the Colony. I
have to refer you to the letter from the Board of Treasury<!--<pb facs="co_398_02/co_398_02_00011v.jpg"/>--><fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">dated</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_10/rg7_g8c_10_00021v.jpg"/> dated <date when="1860-10-25">25th
of October 1860</date> and transmitted to you for your guidance in my despatch
No. 58 of the <date when="1860-10-30">30th</date> of that month, (and acknowledged in yours of <date when="1861-02-08">8th
February 1861</date> No. 13) in which it is expressly stated that the value of
the Coins, amounting to £6900, would be paid from the Parliamentary
grant and that the Colonial Treasurer should abstain from drawing upon
the Paymaster General to an equivalent extent. The fact that part of
the sums granted<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">by</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_10/rg7_g8c_10_00022r.jpg"/> by Parliament for the service of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> has
been sent out in Coin can afford no reason why it should be treated as a
present in addition to the vote, and I must decline to accede to your
application.

<p>
Should you before the receipt of this instruction have drawn for
this sum of £6900 or for any part of it, it will be necessary<!--<pb facs="co_398_02/co_398_02_00012r.jpg"/>--> that you
should limit to a corresponding extent your drafts on the amount which
will be voted by Parliament for<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">the</fw><pb facs="rg7_g8c_10/rg7_g8c_10_00022v.jpg"/> the service of the Colony for the year
<date from="1862" to="1863">1862-63</date>.
