of His Grace the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName> a statement of the account
between the Government of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> and this Office
including the remittance of £1000 referred to by you.

It is part of the business of the Agents General to
keep the Governors informed of the state of their accounts. The
recent statement was called for by this office at<pb facs="co_60_17/co_60_17_00100r.jpg"/>
my suggestion, and the object was to ascertain how much
money would be required out of the proceeds of the new loan
in order to liquidate the Agents' accounts. It seems that
the deficit will be £1851, and that the Agents themselves
contemplate defraying it out of the proceeds of the loan.
</ab>
<p>
I think that the letter may be put by.
