I have to acknowledge your letter of 27th instant, with one from the Governor of the Hudsons Bay Co calling the attention of the Duke of Newcastle to the delay which has occurred in the Colony in carrying into effect the arrangement for the settlement of the Land claims of the Company in British Columbia, made between this Office and Mr Dallas on 11th Octr 1861.

2. We have no information which would enable us to suggest any explanation of the delay—and I can only, therefore, recommend that Governor Douglas' attention should be called to it, and that he should be desired to carry the above arrangement into practical effect, as quickly as circumstances will allow.

I think I wld rather inform the Compy that as Mr Seymour, who is at once to proceed to B. Columbia to supersede GovrGovernor Douglas, will shortly be in this country they will probably think it best that Mr Seymour shdshould receive instructions upon the subject than that any further instrns shdshould be sent to Gov. Douglas.

And that HG will not fail to press on Mr S. the speedy settlement of their questions.
