With reference to your letter of <date when="1863-07-30">30<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> July</date> relative
to a proclamation which had been issued by the Governor of
<placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, substituting for a remission in the purchase
money of Land grants of a fixed extent, in<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">the</fw><pb facs="co_60_17/co_60_17_00372v.jpg"/> the case of Naval
and Military Officers, I am directed by the Secretary of State
for War to transmit to you for the information of the
<persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName> the enclosed copy of a letter from the India Office
and to request that you will move His Grace to inform <persName ref="prs:robinson_gf">Earl de
Grey</persName> whether he sees any objection to the terms &amp; conditions
of the grants of Land in <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName><pb facs="co_60_17/co_60_17_00373r.jpg"/> being announced by
the Government of India, as applicable to the Officers of Her
Majesty's Indian Army.
