<persName ref="prs:cox_s">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Cox</persName>, Wife of <persName ref="prs:cox_w">W.G. Cox</persName> Stipendiary Magistrate <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British
Columbia</placeName>, begs to draw the kind attention of the
<persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName> to her Memorial of <date when="1862-11-22">22<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">nd</hi> Nov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi>/62</date>, since which she
had a letter from her husband saying his Salary was in
arrear. <persName ref="prs:gosset_wd">Captain Gossett</persName> being in England, which seems a
mere excuse begs His Grace will order part of his Salary
for her support.<pb facs="co_60_17/co_60_17_00402v.jpg"/> Should more references be required they
can be had as nothing but truth has been stated, <persName ref="prs:cox_s">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Cox</persName>
trust[s] her hard case may meet His Grace's kind consideration.

in the course of a Mail or two. The absence of the Treasurer,
in England is obviously an excuse, &amp; it is not very probable
that <persName ref="prs:cox_w">Cap. Cox</persName>'s salary is in arrear.

Remind the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice> of the necessity of attending to the
<persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName>'s <choice><abbr>desp<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">h</hi></abbr><expan>despatch</expan></choice> &amp; request early answer.

Inform the Applicant that not having heard from the <choice><abbr>Gov<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi></abbr><expan>Governor</expan></choice>
on the subject he has been written to again.
