I have had the honor to receive your despatch No. 5 of

body of Volunteers numbering sixty three exists in <placeName ref="plc:new_westminster">New Westminster</placeName>.
They are armed with the rifles and revolvers left by <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName>.
I would however mention that in addition to this force, we have
now upwards of one hundred men fully armed engaged in suppressing
the rebellion of <name type="ip" subtype="group">the Chilicoten Indians</name>. Under these circumstances
perhaps you will permit me to defer reporting on the disposal of
these arms. I may, however, at once state my opinion that they
ought not to be withdrawn<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">from</fw><pb facs="co_60_19/co_60_19_00268r.jpg"/> from the Colony.
