to an article which appeared in the "British Columbian" of the
<date when="1864-07-09">9<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> July 1864</date>.

the correctness of a Judge.

If you cast your eye over<pb facs="co_60_19/co_60_19_00358r.jpg"/> the minutes on 1014 of <date when="1862">1862</date>,
it may probably bring to your mind the former occasion on
which the subject came under consideration and was disposed of.
</p>
<p>
If I were to suggest the answer to this, it would be
somewhat as follows:
</p>
<p>
Acknowledge: Say that <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Governor Seymour</persName> was quite right
to apprize <persName ref="prs:begbie_mb">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Justice Begbie</persName> of the remarks which he saw
published, reflecting on the integrity of himself and of
other officials in the <placeName ref="plc:cariboo_region">Cariboo district</placeName>. The matter however
had, as M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Begbie observes, been the subject of a
correspondence before, and as <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Seymour</persName> does not mention
whether he has found the despatches on record, enclose copies
of them for convenience of reference. He will find that
<persName ref="prs:cardwell">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Cardwell</persName>'s Predecessor felt quite satisfied with the
explanations which <persName ref="prs:begbie_mb">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Justice Begbie</persName> furnished on the subject.
</p>
