Sargeaunt informs Elliot that British Columbia is in debt £1289.9.6 to the Crown Agents for the Colonies and that BC has also submitted a bill to the Agents which matures at the end of the next month.

In reply to the enquiry contained in the last paragraph of your letter of the 3rd ultimo I have the honor to acquaint you for the information of Mr Secretary Cardwell that the amount overpaid on account of the Government of British Columbia on the 30th June was £1289.9.6, but that the Crown Agents have received from the Colony a Bill for £6200 which matures on the 30th proximo.

Mr Elliot Under these circẽs I think that we may tell the GovrGovernor that orders have been given to the Crown Agents to comply with the requisition contained in Sir Jas Douglas' desphdespatch of the 11 Apl/64, and also that they have been Authorized to pay themselves the cost of such requisition out of the bill for £6200 which matures on the 30 proxo.

It may perhaps be a question whether, as the Colony is indebted to the Agents the sum of £1289, and the expected bill does not mature for nearly 2 months, the present wdwould not be a favorable moment for telling GovrGovernor Seymour to be careful to keep the Agents in funds to meet his requisitions. Authorize the Agents to repay themselves.
