I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to transmit
to you for the information of the <persName ref="prs:newcastle">Duke of Newcastle</persName> the
accompanying copy of a letter from the Horse Guards with its
enclosure addressed to the Deputy Adjutant General Royal
Engineers by <persName ref="prs:moody_rc">Colonel Moody</persName>, commanding the party of Royal
Engineers lately employed in<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">British</fw><pb facs="co_60_20/co_60_20_00263v.jpg"/> <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, on the subject
of the proposed appointment of <persName ref="prs:luard_hr">Captain Luard</persName> R.E. to be
Commissioner of Lands and Surveyor General in that Colony.
</p>
<p>
It appears that the <orgName ref="org:colonial_office">Colonial Office</orgName> is already in possession
of copies of the correspondence referred to in these Papers.
