I have the honour to enclose for the information of the R<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi>
Honble the Secretary of State an extract from a letter addressed by
one of the officers of this Company to our Secretary.
</p>
<p>
I need not say that the grievance complained of is not
the exaction of lawful duties from this Company, but their
not being exacted with equal strictness from other <name type="ip" subtype="group">traders,
who by importing spirits demoralize the Indians</name> &amp; compete
unfairly with our trade.
</p>
