With reference to your letter of the <date when="1866-03-17">17<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> instant</date>, and
to previous correspondence relative to the payment of the
charges due from certain officers of the Vice <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> Courts
in the Colonies on account of their appointments, I am directed
by the <orgName ref="org:treasury">Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury</orgName> to
acquaint you, for the information of <persName ref="prs:cardwell">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Secretary Cardwell</persName>,
 that My Lords have authorized the Registrar of the High<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">Court</fw><pb facs="co_60_26/co_60_26_00141v.jpg"/> Court
of <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> to remove from his books the sum of £7.8<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">s</hi>.4<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi> due
from <persName ref="prs:begbie_mb">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Begbie</persName>, Judge of the Vice <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> Court at <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British
Columbia</placeName>, for the charges on his Commission as Judge of that Court.

<p>
I am desired to state that My Lords authorize <persName ref="prs:begbie_mb">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">r</hi> Begbie</persName>
receiving his share of the sixteen shillings (16<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">s</hi>/-), paid by him
into the <orgName ref="org:colonial_treasury">Colonial Treasury</orgName> as the Fees received in the Vice
<orgName ref="org:admiralty">Admiralty</orgName> Court at <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> in the spring of <date when="1865">1865</date> in
 the case of the "<placeName ref="plc:alexandria">Alexandria</placeName>," together with any future Fees,
which being received in that Court, may be due to him in his
capacity as judge. He should however be called upon to make
a biennial statement of<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">the</fw><pb facs="co_60_26/co_60_26_00142r.jpg"/> the amount of any Fees so received,
and the arrangement is to be considered as liable to reconsideration.

a principle of action.
