I am directed by <persName ref="prs:peel_j">Secretary Lieutenant General Peel</persName> to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the <date when="1866-10-20">20<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> Ultimo</date>
forwarding an application for Guns, Ammunition, &amp;c for the
Artillery Volunteers of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> and in reply to
acquaint you for the information of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies that the present state of the store will
not<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">admit</fw><pb facs="co_60_26/co_60_26_00231v.jpg"/> admit of the supply of Guns of the nature demanded, but
that two 24 Pou[nd] Howitzers with the necessary Side Arms and
stores have been ordered to be sent out on loan, on the usual
conditions, with two hundred rounds of Ammunition per
Howitzer on <hi style="text-decoration: underline;">payment</hi>.
</p>
<p>
The one hundred sets of Artillery Accoutrements demanded
will also be supplied.
