In reply to your letter of yesterday's date, I have the honor to state that the passage to Victoria for myself, wife & servants costs as follows. Two first class tickets £174.18 Female Servant 45.05 Male 39.15 £259.18

This does not include the expenses of hôtels, wines, nor the carriage of baggage across the Isthmus ofPanama Panama, which additional expenses may be fairly set down as from £150 to £200.

Lord Carnarvon I think that as Governor Seymour has been detained a long time for the good of the public service, but on half pay, we might reasonably ask the Treasury to give him an allowance of £400 towards defraying the expenses of his return to British Columbia with his family. TFE 15 Sep
