<p>
I have laid before my <orgName ref="org:admiralty">Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty</orgName>
your letter of the <date when="1867-11-06">6<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi></date> stating that the Colonial finances
of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> are no longer able to bear a share in the
expense of the Survey of that Coast.
</p>
<p>
My Lords are of opinion that the chief work of that Survey,
now removed some<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">hundred</fw><pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00057v.jpg"/> hundred miles from the actual Settlements of the
Colony is really more for the benefit of Her Majesty's Ships
than for the Commercial purposes of the Colony; &amp; I am to request
that you will inform the Secretary of State that my Lords have
given directions for the expenses of the Survey and the hire of
the "<name ref="vsl:beaver" type="vessel">Beaver</name>" Vessel to be borne by the Imperial Government.
