I transmit to you, for the information of the <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke of Buckingham
and Chandos</persName>, a letter with its enclosure received from the Government
of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver Island</placeName> requesting the <orgName ref="org:ocac">Crown Agents</orgName> to pay to <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi>
Curry</persName> of S<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> John's Chapel, Weardale, the proceeds of the estate
of <persName ref="prs:curry_j">John Curry</persName> deceased, late a member of the Police Force in that
Colony. I also enclose a Declaration from <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Curry</persName>, from which it
would appear that she is the legal representative of the deceased.

<p>
 Under the circumstances<pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00100v.jpg"/> set forth in the enclosed papers I
have the honor to apply for His Grace's authority for making
payment of the amount in question without the production of Letters
of Administration.

Though the pay<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> may not be strictly regular, I should inform
 the <orgName ref="org:ocac">Crown Agents</orgName> that they may make this payment to <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Curry</persName> if they are satisfied<pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00101r.jpg"/> and there seems to be no reason why they
<choice><abbr>sh<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>should</expan></choice> not be satisfied, of the correctness of the statements.
These cases must often have occurred. I should have thought that
with the receipt the agents might get a simple form of indemnity
signed, in case the payment should be disputed.

When this letter came down to me, I did not observe (if they were
there) the former papers. Those papers give additional evidence of
<persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Corry</persName>'s [sic] identity &amp; relationship. Therefore prepare letter
to <orgName ref="org:ocac">Crown Agents</orgName>, authorizing them to pay the amount to <persName ref="prs:curry_mrs">M<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">rs</hi> Corry</persName>,
without letters<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">of</fw><pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00101v.jpg"/> of Administration if they see no reason to doubt her
identity and relationship to the deceased. Draft.
