Columbia</placeName>.</q>

I have the honour to inform you that at the last meeting of
the Governor and Committee of the <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName>, a proposed
Memorial addressed to the Right Honorable the Secretary of State
for the Colonies on the subject of the selection of the Seat of
Government of the United Colony of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> and <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver
Island</placeName>, was laid before them.
</p><fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">In</fw><pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00304v.jpg"/>
<p>
In the Statements of that Memorial so far as relates to the
Harbours of <placeName ref="plc:victoria_harbour">Victoria</placeName> and <placeName ref="plc:esquimalt_harbour">Esquimalt</placeName>, and the importance of the Port
and Capital of the United Colony being in close proximity to the
Pacific Ocean the Governor and Committee fully concur.
</p>
<p>
The <orgName ref="org:hbc">Hudsons Bay Company</orgName> being deeply interested in the
prosperity of both Colonies the Governor and Committee do not
hesitate to express this opinion, but have declined to sign the
Memorial on account of other matters which<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">are</fw><pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00305r.jpg"/> are contained in it.
