Head discusses the views of the Hudson’s Bay Company regarding a proposed Memorial addressed to the Right Honorable…Secretary of State for the Colonies. Head relates that the Hudson’s Bay Company declines to sign the Memorial on account of other matters which are contained in it. Jadis’s minute confirms that the proposed Memorial was not adopted by the Company [and to] see 4333 B. Columbia.

I have the honour to inform you that at the last meeting of the Governor and Committee of the Hudsons Bay Company, a proposed Memorial addressed to the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the subject of the selection of the Seat of Government of the United Colony of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, was laid before them.

In the Statements of that Memorial so far as relates to the Harbours of Victoria and Esquimalt, and the importance of the Port and Capital of the United Colony being in close proximity to the Pacific Ocean the Governor and Committee fully concur.

The Hudsons Bay Company being deeply interested in the prosperity of both Colonies the Governor and Committee do not hesitate to express this opinion, but have declined to sign the Memorial on account of other matters whichare are contained in it.
