Minutes by <persName ref="prs:robinson_w">Robinson</persName> and <persName ref="prs:holland_ht">Holland</persName> discuss whether or not to change section 12 and sanction the ordinance.

Having laid before the Postmaster General your letter of the
<date when="1867-11-11">11<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi> instant</date> and its enclosures, I am directed to state, for the
information of the <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke of Buckingham and Chandos</persName>, that the <persName ref="prs:graham_ja">Duke of
Montrose</persName> has no objection to offer on behalf of this Department to
any of the<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">provisions</fw><pb facs="co_60_30/co_60_30_00356v.jpg"/> provisions of the enclosed Act of the Legislature of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British
Columbia</placeName>, entitled "An Ordinance to Assimilate the Law regulating the
Postal Service."
</p>
<p>
I am, however, to observe that Clause 12 of the Ordinance appears
to the <persName ref="prs:graham_ja">Duke of Montrose</persName> to give, in one respect, greater power to the
Postmaster of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> than is given to the Postmaster General
of the United Kingdom.

An exactly similar section to section 12 of the present ordinance is to
be found in the B. Columbian Postal Ord<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">ce</hi> N<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">o</hi> 14 of <date when="1864">1864</date>. That
Ordinance was referred to the Post office, &amp; approved of without comment,
&amp; subsequently confirmed by HM.

I would therefore sanction this Ordinance without comment.
