ultimo</date>, relating to the conveyance of Mails between <placeName ref="plc:san_francisco">San Francisco</placeName>
and <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of
<orgName ref="org:treasury">Her Majesty's Treasury</orgName> to transmit to you, for the information of
the <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke of Buckingham</persName>, the enclosed copy of a letter from the
Postmaster General relating to this subject,<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">and</fw><pb facs="co_60_31/co_60_31_00070v.jpg"/> and I am desired to
state that My Lords concur in opinion with the <persName ref="prs:graham_ja">Duke of Montrose</persName> that
it would not be advisable on postal grounds to incur on the part of
the Imperial Government the considerable expenditure which the
establishment of a subsidized line of British Packets between
<placeName ref="plc:panama">Panama</placeName> and <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> would involve.
