<persName ref="prs:morgan_w">Morgan</persName> states that, while <persName ref="prs:morgan_hrl">Lieutenant Morgan</persName> did not decide before leaving for <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName> which part of the colony Lieutenant Morgan wanted to live in, <persName ref="prs:morgan_hrl">Lieutenant Morgan</persName> <q>was more strongly disposed to a location in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver</placeName> [Island].</q> <persName ref="prs:jadis_v">Jadis</persName> minutes that current <q>Regulations</q> provide <q>no privileges in the acquisition of land</q> for <q>Military Officers [on] <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Van Couver Island</placeName>,</q> even after the union of the colonies. The included document is a reply letter to <persName ref="prs:morgan_w">Morgan</persName> advising that <persName ref="prs:morgan_hrl">Lieutenant Morgan</persName> would receive the rights deemed claimable at the time the certificate was received.

I beg to acknowledge the receipt of Your letter of <date when="1867-05-19">15<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi>
ins<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi></date> informing me that His Grace The <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke of Buckingham &amp; Chandos</persName>
<choice><abbr>w<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>would</expan></choice> be pleased to forward to the Governor of <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">New Columbia</placeName>, the
Horse Guards Certificate of my son's services, requesting him to take
the necessary steps to enable him (<persName ref="prs:morgan_hrl">Lieu<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">t</hi> Morgan</persName>) to obtain the
advantages in point of purchase of land to which the regulations
entitled him.
</p>
<p>
I beg to observe that at the time of my sons leaving he had not
decided in which of these Colonies of <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver</placeName> or <placeName ref="plc:british_columbia">British Columbia</placeName>
he would finally settle, but he was more strongly disposed to a
location in <placeName ref="plc:vancouver_island">Vancouver</placeName>.
</p>
<p>
If after his arrival, he should make that selection, <choice><abbr>w<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">h</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I
think most likely I hope it will not be deemed by his Grace The <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Duke
of Buckingham &amp; Chandos</persName> incompatible to comply with his wishes.
