I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch dated the 21st instant reminding me, in reply to my letter of the 3rd instant, that another appointment, in the Colony, with the same emolument that I was previously receiving, was offered to me by the Governor of British Columbia at the time of the abolition of my office and that I declined it.

In reply, I have respectfully to request that you will acquaint His Grace the Secretary of State that no appointment of equal emolument to that which I was receiving previous to the abolition of my office was ever offered to me by the Governor of British Columbia.

Mr Elliot I sent you on yesterday a letter from Mr Watson's Father.

Rogers to Watson, 18 September 1867, advising that Seymour had reported offering him a position of equal salary but inferior rank which was declined, and that the passage home and six months leave of absence were intended as full compensation for loss of office.
