<p>
 In reference to money owed to the war department that <persName ref="prs:carnarvon">Carnarvon</persName> instructed <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Seymour</persName> to repay, <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Seymour</persName> asks for an extended amount of credit concerning the money owed to the war department. <persName ref="prs:cox_c">Cox</persName>’s minute suggests encouraging <persName ref="prs:seymour_f">Seymour</persName> to repay the small amount immediately. Minutes by <persName ref="prs:rogers_f">Rogers</persName>, <persName ref="prs:adderley_cb">Adderley</persName>, and <persName ref="prs:grenville_r">Buckingham</persName> agree to letting the amount owed to the war department <q>stand over.</q>

I have had the honor to receive the <persName ref="prs:carnarvon">Earl of Carnarvon</persName>'s despatch
No. 12, of the <date when="1867-02-07">7<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">th</hi>
February 1867</date>, and No. 51 of <date when="1867-08-31">31 August 1867</date>, directing me to pay
the sum of one hundred and<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">forty</fw><pb facs="co_60_32/co_60_32_00039v.jpg"/> forty one pounds, one shilling, and
three pence (£141.1.3), due to the War Department for Stores supplied
to the Artillery Volunteers in this Colony.
</p>
<p>
2. We have been making very large remittances to the Colonial
Agents lately and of Course an order from Your Grace's
department would at once procure the payment of the amount
applied for. But if we could obtain a somewhat extended credit
it<fw type="catchword" style="text-align: right;">would</fw><pb facs="co_60_32/co_60_32_00040r.jpg"/> would be a benefit to us (small as the amount is) in the
present state of the finances.

See 2705 from <orgName ref="org:war_office">War Office</orgName> who have consented to the postponement
of payments of this sum of £141.1.3 until more prosperous
times. If the Agents are tolerably well supplied with Funds I
incline to think it <choice><abbr>w<hi style="vertical-align: super; font-size: 80%;">d</hi></abbr><expan>would</expan></choice>
be better to pay off such a small Item as this.
